Kawanabe Nazuna (河鍋薺) is a first year Lily who attends Odaiba Girls' School. She is a member of Legion Heorot Saints. Nazuna is a recurring character in the Odaiba series of stage plays, often appearing together with Suzuki Chinami and Takehisa Nakaba.
Personality
[edit | edit source]Nazuna is playful and remarkably energetic, with a happy-go-lucky disposition that she retains even when in the middle of combat. Though this seemingly carefree attitude does not hinder her performance in battle, it does occasionally earn her the criticism of the more serious types such as Hayami Katsura. Nazuna's cheerfulness will reach its peak when in the presence of Hishida Haru, whom she wholeheartedly admires. Nazuna will make constant attempts to gain Haru's attention and earn her praise, and because her close friend Chinami is equally infatuated with Haru, this will often lead the pair to bicker between themselves.
Nazuna is noted to be somewhat clumsy[1] and someone easy to fool.[2] She is eager to become a Lily seen by others as reliable and "cool",[3] and because of this, she will sometimes make unprompted, boastful statements when in combat.[4] However, she is also noted to easily panic.[5]
While not particularly formal, Nazuna is still polite and respectful of others. She is quick to apologize when realizing she is being an inconvenience or annoyance to others, and whenever she is criticized for her behavior, Nazuna prefers to simply sulk by herself rather than voicing her disagreement. Belying her usual cheerful self, Nazuna is remarkably thoughtful, and will assume a much more solemn and sincere demeanor during serious situations, particularly when those she cares about are under duress.
Much of what constitutes Nazuna's present personality can be traced back to her incredibly traumatic past. Disowned by her surviving family and being forced to fend for herself from a young age, she grew to be distrustful of other people.[6] As such, Nazuna eventually came to believe that she needed to become strong in order to survive, but even then, she still yearned for the warmth of companionship, being described as the type to "easily feel abandoned",[7] a trait that likely explains her eagerness to earn Haru's validation. Due to her past hardships, Nazuna has come to see her current teammates as her own family,[7] and is particularly attached to Nakaba, who was the one to offer her support during her times of struggle after enrolling into Odaiba Girls School.[8]
Though Nazuna is usually polite and somewhat reserved, her personality will change completely when drinking herbal teas. As noted by Shiba Tomoshibi, she is fond of including "all sorts of things" into her blends, as she not only finds standard blends boring, but she believes the inclusion of different varieties will improve the tea's benefits.[9] As a result, she'll often become completely intoxicated, with her behavior resembling that of an obnoxious, belligerent drunk. In particular, Nazuna loses her inhibitions while in this state, she'll become much more loud-mouthed and boisterous, and will air out her grievances and dissatisfaction with others in the open, often forcing those around her to keep her under control.
History
[edit | edit source]Nazuna lost her immediate family to a Huge attack in her early childhood, and would later be completely abandoned by her other relatives,[7] leaving her to spend her younger days as a homeless beggar.[10] Nazuna struggled to survive, as her experiences led her to grow distrustful of other people, and at one point, she was brought to the brink of death due to starvation, only surviving due to one Kariya Higure providing her food.[11] Nazuna was eventually found and rescued by Instructor Akira Blanton, who brought her into the custody of Odaiba Girls' School.
Nazuna possessed a Skiller Value of 45,[12] below the threshold to become a fully fledged Lily, and so, many doubted that she possessed any real potential.[13] During her time as an elementary school student, Nazuna met Takehisa Nakaba, a prodigious Lily who possessed a high Skiller Value from an early age.[14] Nakaba developed a deep affection towards Nazuna, not only sincerely believing in her potential, but also coming to love her personality. Despite Nakaba's friendship and support, however, Nazuna still viewed herself as someone unworthy to be by her side.[6]
Nazuna's friendship with Nakaba continued into their first year of junior high, with Nazuna notably insisting that her Jötunn-Schwert be made to look similar to Nakaba's.[15] Nazuna also met and became friends with the recently transferred Kozue West.[16] During this period, Nazuna grew even more conscious of the gap in hers and Nakaba's abilities, leading her to become very depressed, to the point of being unable to deploy to the battlefield entirely.[17] Seeing this, Kozue encouraged her, noting that while Nazuna was, in fact, weak, she felt that she possessed "something strange" hidden within, which Kozue felt "might turn out to be to something big".[18] Nazuna was equally encouraged by the Garden's Doctor, Nakahara Mary Tomoyo, who spurred her on to return to the battlefield.[19] Finally, she confided her insecurities in Nakaba herself, who would in response tell her that "now is simply not yet your time, but I know that the manner in which you take your CHARM in hands is second to none in this entire school. I care not if others do not, I love every part of you".
It was during her junior high days that Nazuna caught the attention of Hishida Haru, who became intrigued by her, watching on as Nazuna progresssed on her journey as a Lily.[20] Presumably during this time, she also met and befriended Imamura Yukari.[21]
At an unspecified point in time, Nazuna met and befriended Suzuki Chinami, with the pair frequently training together. Nazuna also became friends with one Chemir Friedheim of St. Mercurius.[22]
The Odaiba Counteroffensive
[edit | edit source]Main article: Assault Lily Wunder
Nazuna was one of several junior high Lilies of Odaiba Girls' School present during the Odaiba Counteroffensive. Initially attending the Neunwelt Tactic Technical Conference, she and Nakaba were later dispatched with the other junior high Lilies together with the Fourth Division to safeguard the civilians while evacuations were conducted. Nazuna and Nakaba were in Ariake when Haru ultimately decided to destroy Fujimi Bridge in order to deter a swarm of Solder Ants, led by a Gigant-type, leaving themselves, as well as all the civilians in the district without a direct escape route. With the Soldier Ants now advancing in their direction, Nakaba proposed that the civilians be evacuated through the Tokyo Port underground tunnel instead. And so, Nazuna and Nakaba, as well as three other junior high Lilies moved to intercept the Soldier Ants while the military continued with the evacuation.
After holding back the Soldier Ants for long enough for the military trucks containing the civilians to escape safely, Nazuna's team began to make their way towards Nozomi Bridge. Just then, one of the trucks came to a halt after its engine malfunctioned, and as the Soldier ants soon moved to attack it, Nazuna was surrounded by the flock and isolated from the other Lilies. Just as one of the Soldier Ants was about to kill Nazuna, she was rescued by Kondo Misaka, a first year Lily of Yurigaoka Girls' Academy who integrated the Second Division.
With Misaka taking the lead on the battle, the Lilies successfully reached Nozomi Bridge, and Nakaba deployed the bridge's defensive wall, bringing the Gigant-class to a halt. Under Misaka's command, the junior high Lilies continued to escort the evacuees and take down the smaller Soldier Ants who were able to climb the wall, leaving Misaka behind as she prepared to face the Gigant-class by herself.
Misaka successfully deterred the Gigant-class Huge for twenty minutes, long enough for the Second Division to arrive at Nozomi Bridge and kill it. Nazuna, Nakaba and the other junior high Lilies returned to the bridge in order to aid the Second Division in wiping the area clean of the Huge. Their team continued on to Daiba, where they encountered the Fourth Division as they fought another flock of Soldier Ants at the Tokyo Teleport Station. After learning from Tithia Paumgartner that their entire strategy to take down the Nestless Ultra would be changed, Nazuna and Nakaba were tasked with returning to Nozomi Bridge in order to deliver the Second Division the new strategy.
After the Counteroffensive's conclusion, both Nazuna and Nakaba would go on to declare their admiration for Misaka.[23]
After the Counteroffensive
[edit | edit source]Following the Odaiba Counteroffensive, the once retired Lily Hayami Katsura enrolled into Odaiba Girls' School on Tsukioka Momiji's request. Despite Katsura's strict and straight-laced personality, she developed a good relationship with Nazuna, being noted to treat her kindly[24] and particularly offering her advice on her fighting style.[25] During this period, Nakaba would be scouted by St. Mercurius International School due to her service in the Counteroffensive, but she declined, with her statement that "I'll stay and fight in Odaiba, where those I love are." reportedly moving Nazuna to tears.[26]
Presumably after the Counteroffensive, Nazuna efforts were finally rewarded as she awakened to the Rare Skill Phantasm, being the first Lily in Odaiba's history to ever awaken to the Skill.[27] Kozue would also awaken to Phantasm shortly after Nakaba, and the two of them bonded over it.[28] And so, despite her beginnings as a subpar Lily, Nazuna came to be recognized as one of Odaiba's Shining Stars (輝けるものたち),[29] and upon entering her first year of high school, she, together with Nakaba, Katsura and Chinami, joined Odaiba's Top Legion, the Heorot Saints.
After Shiba Tomoshibi enrolled into Odaiba Girls' School, she became friends with Nazuna over their shared love of herbal teas.[30]
The Liberation of Niigata

Note: this section follows the webnovel version of the story, and is therefore incomplete.
Nazuna and the Heorot Saints were joined by Funada Kiito and her newly formed Legion Hronesnæsse in an Expedition to Niigata, Japan, following a request by Amatsu Marei that they aid Legion Álfheimr and Ryuto Girls' Academy in taking down the Fafnir, one of the Seven Great Ultra-class Huge which had made its Nest to Niigata in the year following the Odaiba Counteroffensive. The Saints and Hronesnæsse initially arrived at the neighbouring prefecture of Tochigi, where Ryuto's Legion Kólga was locked in combat against a horde of Huge that suddenly emerged from Lake Chuzenji.
After rescuing Legion Kólga, the Heorot Saints were tasked with accompanying Legion Dúfa in retaking Niigata's harbour from the Huge's control, as Ryuto hoped to have a clear path towards Niigata's Sado Island, where the Fafnir was located. There, the Saints and Dúfa encountered the two-headed Gigant-class Restore Orthrus, which nearly killed Nazuna after the Lily attempted to fire at it, being narrowly rescued by Momiji. The two Legions agree to each perform a Neunwelt Tactic in order to destroy both of the Gigant's heads, meanwhile , Legion Hronesnæsse had joined Legion Kólga in returning to Lake Chuzenji, where they learned that the master of the Nest in the Lake, the Gigant-class Cihuateteo, had since evolved into an Ultra-class, forcing them to retreat.
Now with two Ultra-class Huge to contend with, the Lilies devised the strategy called "Mission Drachentöter", which entailed separating their forces into two teams, as they ascertained that the Fafnir and the Cihuateteo would eventually converge, hence requiring them to be neutralized simultaneously. And so, with Legion Álfheimr and the leaders of Ryuto's Legions of the Nine continuing with their operation to neutralize the Fafnir, The Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse were tasked with defeating the Cihuateteo together.

[edit | edit source]Main article: Assault Lily: The Singular Ability
When the Heorot Saints undertook an Expedition to Makuhari, in the Chiba Prefecture, Haru and Nazuna and Yokoyama Azusa were tasked with staying in Tokyo in order to aid Legion Hronesnæsse with neutralizing a particular Cave. Unbeknownst to them, Chinami also stayed behind, and soon catches up with her Legion mates as they continue their mission. The Lilies learn from Yukari that another Cave has been located in the Shin-Kiba region, and swiftly move to destroy it before it has the chance to grow.
While on their way to the Cave, the two Legions regroup with Kiito, her sister Funada Ui, Tomoshibi and Kawamura Yuzuriha, who had just returned from an Expedition to Shinjuku following the collapse of Ludvico Private Girls' Academy. When Ui points out that many of the Huge they encountered on their way back are similar to the Irregular Huge which had broken out of Ludvico's GEHENA laboratory, the Lilies theorize that the Cave in Shin-Kiba may be the result of a GEHENA experiment. Just then, the two Legions are met with a Gigant-class Huge, which they note to behave similarly to the Gigant-class Haru faced at Fujimi Bridge.
Reliving her traumatic memories, a disconcerted Haru sets off to fight the Huge on her own, with the Saints and Hronesnæsse in pursuit. Growing increasingly out of control, Haru eventually activates her Aberration, Divine Possession, before she is stopped by Nagasawa Yuki and returns to her senses. Having broken her CHARM in her rampage, Haru retreats from the battlefield with Chinami, who had been hit by one of the Huge's attacks, while Nazuna, Yuzuriha and Azusa continue to move along with Hronesnæsse. Noticing how during their previous encounter, their Magie seemed to deplete much faster than usual, while their bodies felt considerably heavier, the Lilies soon deduce the Gigant-class to be another variant of the Gravity Manipulator they encountered during the Odaiba Counteroffensive, ascertaining that its appearance is likely the result of a GEHENA experiment that seeks to replicate the conditions of that battle. Yuzuriha insists that Kiito allows the Saints to join Hronesnæsse in hunting it down, in hopes of aiding Haru in finding closure.
Now recovered, Haru and Chinami rejoin the two Legions as they track down the Gigant-class, and the Lilies soon begin a joint Neunwelt Tactic in order to swiftly bring it down. After making her pass, Nazuna notes that Haru appears unusually unfocused, but the older Lily simply attributes it to her unfamiliarity with her replacement CHARM, the Galateia. However, after receiving her pass, Haru begins to break down as she turns to look at Nazuna and Yukari, still haunted by her decision to destroy Fujimi Bridge even while knowing that it would leave the two of them with no way out. Haru eventually fully loses control of herself and sets off on another rampage, Kiito and Ui chase after her, and Tomoshibi is left in charge of their Legion as they continue to engage the Gigant-class, promising Kiito to not allow for a single life to be lost.
The two Legions continue their Neunwelt, and as they do, Nazuna notices that Yukari is particularly affected by Haru's condition, as the pair was also close. Nazuna tells Yukari that while Haru's decision did leave them helpless back then, they might still have been able to spare Haru of the reproach she suffered had they also fought their hardest at that time, and that it's something they're able to do now. Motivated to earn Haru's praise, Nazuna continues to fight at her best, but after letting her guard down while using her Phantasm, she is targeted by a stray attack which Tomoshibi shields with her own body, leaving the letter severely injured.
Tomoshibi survives the attack, and is able to retreat to the medical bay, but Nazuna is still left distraught by the occurrence, despite Azusa's attempts to comfort her. The Lilies continue the Neunwelt, but in the absence of Tomoshibi's Laplace, they soon become exhausted due to the Gravity Manipulator's presence increasing their drainage of Magie. Nazuna, still bothered by what happened before, attempts to continue fighting regardless, with Chinami using her Charisma to replenish her Magie reserves to the best of her abilities. Though disheveled, the pair continue to fight by themselves, and Nazuna is eventually disarmed by an attack, but as Chinami moves to shield her from the Huge's advances, her Magie experiences a sudden surge, completely shielding the pair from the Huge's attacks while also revitalizing the other Lilies. As Tomoshibi returns, she confirms that Chinami's Charisma had just evolved into Laplace.
Back at full strength, the two Legions once again resume their Neunwelt, with Hronesnæsse assuming the final passes while the Saints provide them with cover. By Igusa Subaru's suggestion, Yukari receives the final pass, and ultimately takes a successful finishing shot. After the battle concludes, Nazuna joins the other Saints members in visiting Haru at the medical bay, being particularly happy to see that Haru was fully able to recover.
The Empathy Phenomenon
[edit | edit source]Main article: Assault Lily: The Empathy Phenomenon
During a mission to neutralize one of the many Caves which had recently formed across Tokyo, the Heorot Saints encounter a Gigant-class Huge, and so, quickly begin a Neunwelt Tactic in order to neutralize it. During her turn with the Magisphere, Nazuna is scolded by Katsura for carelessly twirling her CHARM around, causing her to sulk. The Saints eventually realize that the Gigant-class possesses the Dominator Skill, which allows it to convert the ambient Magie into Negative Magie, and when Lunatic Trancer user Saigo Kurena falls victim to its effects, Momiji enlists Nakaba, Nazuna and Katsura to join her in making the Neunwelt's final passes while the remaining Saints members attempt to restrain the rampaging Kurena. Though Momiji's team is also eventually joined by the Funada Sisters, Kiito's finishing shot proves insufficient to take down the Gigant-class, and it ultimately escapes.
After returning to the Garden, the Saints and Hronesnæsse first years hold a tea party together, and Nazuna, completely intoxicated by her unique tea blends, expresses to Katsura her dissatisfaction at being called out for her behavior during the previous battle. The first years discuss Kiito's failure to take down the Gigant-class, and the inebriated Nazuna surmises it to be a result of her inability to properly work together with her sister Ui after the latter suffered an injury, a statement that leads her into a brief spat with Tomoshibi.
Later, the Saints hold a training session, where they practice making their passes of the Neunwelt. Nazuna is particularly annoyed at having to constantly exchange passes with Chinami, and Nakaba tries to encourage her, telling her it's "for the sake of the whole Legion."
During another tea party, the first years discuss Kurena being placed with Hronesnæsse in order to help her recover, Katsura expresses the possibility that Kurena might eventually decide against returning to the Saints and stay permanently with Hronesnæsse, but an irritated Tomoshibi asserts she will not allow that to happen before leaving on her own. When Nazuna points out that Tomoshibi is not particularly the type to ask others politely, the first years presume she intends to kick off Kurena by force, and frantically leave to chase after her.
Odaiba is alerted to another Cave, and the Saints, Hronesnæsse, as well as Hirose Minato and Kishida Hanabusa of Legion Coast Guard promptly assemble to neutralize it. There, they are met with the Gigant-class Huge Gigafloat, which possesses an energy shield that renders it impervious to regular attacks. And so, the two Legions agree to perform a double Neunwelt Tactic, with the Saints tasked with destroying the shield while Hronesnæsse destroys its core. With the Gigafloat's light tentacles proving a hindrance to their Neunwelts, Nazuna, Yukari, Kozue and Otake Sunao are tasked with destroying them.
While their Neunwelt continues smoothly, the Lilies struggle to keep up with the light tentacles. Nazuna attempts to use her Phantasm to reliably predict the tentacles' behavior, but as soon as she does, the Gigafloat attacks Momiji. Though Yuzuriha is able to deflect its attack, the Huge eventually takes both her and Momiji captive. Nazuna is dismayed, blaming herself for failing to activate her Phantasm in time, and Nakaba attempts to comfort her, confident that Momiji and Yuzuriha are unharmed. As Momiji had the Saints' Magisphere, the Lilies change strategies, now aiming to use Hronesnæsse's Magisphere to destroy the shield and hopefully retrieve Momiji's, but with Momiji and Yuzuriha, as well as Kiito and Kurena absent, the Lilies are forced to approach the Huge in order to make use of its Magie Intensity to produce a powerful enough Magisphere to destroy its shield.
The mixed Legion team succeeds in destroying the shield and safely retrieve Momiji and Yuzuriha. Glad that the pair was able to escape unharmed, Nazuna breaks down in tears, and Yuzuriha thanks her, telling her that it was her Phantasm that allowed her to protect Momiji in time. With Momiji and Yuzuriha back and the Magisphere safe, the Saints continue their Neunwelt together with Minato and Hanabusa. Kiito and Kurena eventually return with Ui, and joined by Chinami, Yuki, Tomoshibi and Sunao, they make the Neunwelt's final passes, successfully destroying the Gigafloat.
The Battle to Overcome
[edit | edit source]Main article: Assault Lily: The Battle to Overcome
The Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse are dispatched together to destroy a Cave, and over the course of the battle, they encounter several Irregular Soldier Ants, which Kiito quickly recognizes as the very same ones they encountered two years ago, during the final battle of their junior high team, the Funada Reserve Corps. After the battle concludes, the first years reunite for another tea party, where Nagasawa Yuki tells them of how two years ago, the Funada Reserve Corps had been completely surrounded by the Soldier Ants after a miscalculation by their commander, Kon Kanaho, left them with no viable escape routes. Nazuna, drunk on her tea mix, is quick to scoff at Kanaho's lapse of judgment, and as their conversation continues, Nazuna's constant rowdy behavior leads her to be scolded by several of the first years, eventually being coerced into promising to stay quiet so that Yuki can continue telling the story.
Later, the Soldier Ants are detected at Odaiba's Wakasu Park, and so, the Saints and Hronesnæsse swiftly deploy to intercept them. Shortly upon their arrival, they are joined by Kanaho and Miyagawa Takane, both former members of the Reserve Corps who have since transferred to Kamba Girls' High School for the Fine Arts. The two Legions are immediately met by a Gigant-class Soldier Ant just as Odaiba's Light Walls are placed in full admission mode, and Kiito, hoping to settle their score with those Huge, proposes that instead of fighting as different Legions, they reassemble as the Reserve Corps for the final time. With all former members in agreement, the Reserve Corps takes charge of defeating the Gigant Soldier Ant, while the remaining Lilies fight off the remaining swarm of Huge.
Nazuna, Nakaba and Chinami watch on as the Reserve Corps conducts their passes, and while Nakaba and Chinami are in awe of their performance, Nazuna appears unusually dazed. Nazuna tells the two that learning of her seniors' past led her to remember her own, recalling how she did not feel worthy of being Nakaba's friend, to the point that "it hurt just being by [her] side". She goes on to reminisce of the words of encouragement Nakaba had given her, owing it to them that she was finally able to leave her worries behind. A flustered Chinami recalls how she and Nazuna would also often practice together, and Nakaba points out that Chinami does seem to like Nazuna quite a bit. Regaining her spirits, Nazuna leads the other two back into battle.
The Reserve Corps' regroup as their Neunwelt nears its conclusion, but just as they do, they watch as the Gigant-class devours Odaiba Instructor Inaba Mayumi. As she appeared to allow herself to be consumed by the Huge, the Lilies presume her to be the one responsible for the current Soldier Ant outbreak, noting how Huge will sometimes eat their own in order to further boost their abilities. Meanwhile, Nazuna and Nakaba find Tomoshibi alongside a second lifeless body of Mayumi. Tomoshibi frantically tries to explain that she was not the one to kill her, but Nazuna and Nakaba are mainly confused, as they just watched Mayumi be eaten by the Huge a moment ago.
Nazuna, Nakaba and Tomoshibi regroup with the other Lilies, and as they do, Mayumi telepathically speaks to them, her consciousness having merged with the Huge. After a brief conversation, Mayumi's voice begins to break down, and the telepathic link suddenly breaks, leading the Lilies to conclude that the Gigant-class ultimately rejected her consciousness. With little else to do, the Reserve Corps resumes their Neunwelt while the other Lilies return to acting as their support, and they eventually succeed in killing the Gigant-class Soldier Ant. But as its accompanying swarm still remains, Kiito orders all the other Lilies to keep them at bay while her and Kiito move to destroy their Nest before the Light Walls' full admission mode reaches its time limit.
After the battle concludes, the Saints and Hronesnæsse, including Nazuna, reunite to see Kanaho and Takane off as they return to Kamba.
The Snowdrop
[edit | edit source]Main article: Assault Lily: The Snowdrop
Following another successful joint mission by the Saints and Hronesnæsse, the first year Lily Komai Sumire transfers into Odaiba Girls' School from Ambrosia Ladies' Institute of Secondary Education, being placed in Legion Hronesnæsse as a temporary member. The Saints' and Hronesnæsse hold another tea party in order to welcome her, but unbeknownst to the others, Nakaba and Katsura had been tasked with extracting information from her by Momiji, who suspected Sumire's decision to transfer into Odaiba from a Garden of such high prestige as Ambrosia.
Their conversation eventually derails as Sumire expresses her curiosity in learning more about Legion Hronesnæsse's past, which the other first years indulge. Nazuna, meanwhile, becomes predictably inebriated on the tea mix. Their conversation eventually turns to Odaiba's Blood Oath, and both Nazuna and Chinami express their desire to take the oath with Haru, prompting the pair to squabble with each other yet again. As the school bell rings, the tea party ends before Katsura and Nakaba can extract any pertinent information from Sumire, much to the disappointment of Momiji and the Saints' second years.
Later, the Heorot Saints and Hronesnæsse deploy together once again following the appearance of a Great Cave, and they are soon informed by Instructor Akira that the host of this Cave is the Cihuateteo, which was able to survive their previous encounter with it in Tochigi after consuming the core of the Huge known as Giant Zombie, consequently granting its Undead ability to every Huge spawned by the Cave. Seeking to avoid needlessly exhausting themselves by fighting the entire Horde, Kiito and Momiji agree to have their Legions rush straight towards the Cihuateteo and its immediate convoy.
The Lilies depart, with a strategy consisting of closing in on the Cihuateteo in pairs. Nazuna and Haru once again bicker between themselves over which one gets to pair up with Haru before being stopped by Azusa, who proposes that both of them tag along with Haru as she'll also be joining them, technically making two pairs. Though Nazuna and Chinami are content with the solution, Haru remains flustered, unable to keep up with the pair's pace. The Lilies eventually regroup after successfully making past the horde of Huge, but Sumire and Tomoshibi are yet to arrive. Akira instructs the two Legions to perform a double Neunwelt Tactic, as the two Magispheres would cause enough damage to expose the Giant Zombie's core, which she would personally destroy. However, because the Cihuateteo possesses tentacles that can sap the Lilies of their Magie, they agree to carry out their Neunwelt further away and out of its reach.
The Saints and Hronesnæsse reassemble after successfully building up the Magisphere, but as they would now need to approach the Cihuateteo in order to make the final passes, they split the task of neutralizing its tentacles between the members of their two Legions. While incredibly exhausted at this point, the Saints succeed in completing their Magisphere while fending off the tentacles, and Tomoshibi and Sumire return just in time to allow Hronesnæsse to complete theirs, allowing Kiito and Momiji to finally fire them against the Cihuateteo. The resulting explosion exposes its core as predicted, and Akira successfully destroys it.

After Legion Sanngriðr and the Oshima Nest Survey Team successfully dispelled the Death Zone that permeated across the Izu Oshima island, several of Kanto's Gardens assembled a second task force, named "Oshima Nest Extermination Team", in order to destroy the Nests surrounding the island's perimeter, and among the Legions that integrated it was Legion Heorot Saints, which was tasked with neutralizing the Nest present in the Sagami seas. Haru, Chinami and Nazuna were dispatched early in order to scout the area, soon returning to meet Momiji, Yuzuriha and Kurena, who had since joined Legion Hronesnæsse, as well as Kamba's Legion Gran Eple, in fighting the Huge in the area, which included Soldier Ants.
Though Haru was unable to find the Gigant-class controlling the Nest, she points out the unusual presence of a air carrier in the ocean nearby. As they fend off the Soldier Ants, Gran Eple's Tamba Akari, who possesses an Aberration that allows her to see the colors of Magie, notes that the ship emanates "nasty, scary colors". With the Ants' numbers continuing to increase, the Lilies split themselves in two teams, with Haru, Kiito, Ui, Kanaho and Takane, as well as Homma Akehi and Shiozaki Suzume moving ahead to investigate the vessel, while the remaining Lilies continue to hold off against the Huge outside.
As the Saints, Hronesnæsse and Gran Eple continue fighting the Huge's swarm, Ishizuka Fujino notices that they appear unusually intent on protecting the ship. After Yokota Haruna deliberately fires directly at the ship, it begins to move, leading the Lilies to conclude that the Gigant-class they are looking for has assimilated the vessel itself onto its body. Having found the Soldier Ants' queen within the ship's enclosure, Kiito requests that the outside team keep the Gigant-class, nicknamed "Mary Celeste", restrained until they can exit it.
Kurena and Suzume eventually force the Soldier Ants' queen out of the Mary Celeste, leaving the Lilies on the outside to finish it off while the inside team takes down the Gigant-class with the Neunwelt Tactic. Both teams succeed in taking down their respective opponents, and with the Sagami Nest neutralized, they moved ahead to join Yurigaoka's Team Hitotsuyanagi and Legion Álfheimr in neutralizing the northernmost S-Rank undersea Nest still remaining in Izu Oshima, eventually leading them to confront the Ultra Class Huge Azhi Dahaka
Combat Style
[edit | edit source]Nazuna is a speed oriented Phantasm user, which entails using her sheer speed to completely dominate the battlefield by performing extremely quick offensive and defensive moves.[31] Though she is noted to be already naturally quick on her feet[32] this is further amplified by her possession of the Subskill Invisible One.[33] She possesses a particular habit of suddenly changing course while at max speed, instantly disappearing from the Huge's line of sight, a move she nicknames "Nazuna Roulette."[34]
During the Neunwelt Tactic, she is noted to sometimes play around with the Magisphere,[35] and is particularly proficient at disorienting the Huge by suddenly accelerating and stopping before taking the finishing shot.[36] When making her passes, Nazuna will exchange the majority of them with Chinami.[37]
Toyline
[edit | edit source]Nazuna's action doll, titled "Assault Lily Series No.40: Kawanabe Nazuna", was released in May 2018. It featured four swappable faceplates, the complete Odaiba Girls' School uniform (including the jacket, which is absent from Nazuna's design), as well as Battle Cloth gauntlets and waist armor plates. The CHARM included with the doll was the Brionac.

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- While the Jötunn-Schwerts wielded by Odaiba's Lilies are usually tailor made to suit their needs, Nazuna's Jötunn-Schwert is noted to not be a good match to her speed oriented combat style. Even still, she insisted that her Jötunn-Schwert be made to look like Nakaba's.[38]
- Nazuna's hobbies include running and collecting tea utensils.[39]
- Nazuna likes frogs and rabbits, being particularly fond of the latter's lop-eared species.[40]
- Nazuna is said to be a big eater,[41] not having any foods she dislikes.[42]
- Despite her love of herbal teas, Nazuna hates coffee.[43]
- Nazuna is said to dislike ghost stories, as well as scary stories in general.[44]
